Commercial: Clown Proof
Serious technology. Silly situations. This is great storytelling from Audi. The way in which Director Ringan Ledwidge layers complete chaos over this hypnotic cover of a Sondheim classic is so effective. The art direction is fantastic. I found so many great details in the clown costumes that I've noticed after watching this spot twenty times over the course of several weeks with friends and family. I laugh out loud every time that high angle wide shot reveals Bozo taking a sponge bath on top of the moving bus. In the final scene, I think about how dangerous it must be to ride that miniature motorbike through the tunnel in a pack.
Technology is making cars safer and also making drivers more distracted than ever. That's a resonant fact that most drivers can appreciate. Personally, I drive a lot. I come in contact with rode clowns almost every day of the week. Sometimes, I am one of them. We all are. This truth reminds me that we are also laughing at ourselves in this story.
